Nerida Lovell - Counselling Social Worker
Care and compassion. Respect and support. For me these are not just words – these principles underpin my work as a counsellor.
Although I am a highly qualified social worker* – which means my approach is trauma-informed and recovery-based – for me it is more important to be able to say I have helped people meet the challenges they face in life.
Offering a welcoming space for you to feel completely at ease in talking about what's troubling you (which I know can be really hard), my job is to provide the support you need to make positive changes in your life. Like most counsellors, I am good at talking, but I'm an even better listener. Whether you have major issues happening in your life or minor concerns which are making you feel stressed and unhappy, I believe we can work through things together. I don't judge, I just try to help. My focus is on you.
Using a psychosocial approach, I'll provide you with an individual support plan. Then we'll use the best techniques for you – from mindfulness and guided meditation to cognitive behavioural therapy and narrative therapy – to help you achieve better clarity, agency and self-compassion. And as I am passionate about improving physical and mental well-being, I also offer 'Walk and Talk' sessions – get in touch and I'll tell you more, but please note I don't run!
I've been a social worker for 20 years in various areas of health and welfare including disability services, palliative care, cancer support, aged care, 'barriers to employment' and family carer support. Specialising in grief counselling and bereavement support, I have a special affinity with family carers and anybody who is finding it challenging to support others around them. I work with children and adults from a range of backgrounds and with couples and other family groups.
